Silk and Nylon stockings were an incredibly popular part of women’s clothing at the time, when both of those materials were rationed during the War, people such as Millicent Wagner got creative with how to still wear stockings.
Nobody criticized our lack of being able to buy things. For instance, for the women, you couldn’t buy silk stockings anymore. And we used to paint our legs with leg paint. And remember, at that time, they even had a seam going up the back, so we used to try to put a seam in. Then we would just pray that it wouldn’t rain and wash your legs off. But those were things that, you know, you learned to do without.
