The StoryQuest Project, an innovative oral history effort, tells a comprehensive World War II story, capturing the home front experiences of adults and children along with veterans’ stories. As the 75th anniversary of the conflict unfolds, we are gathering not just stories of battle, but also the civilian memories that have rarely been recorded and are in danger of being lost forever. Explore this website to see and hear how men, women, and children alike helped win the “total war” — and how the war’s impact is still felt by American families even today.
StoryQuest is a project of students and faculty at Washington College’s C.V. Starr Center for the Study of the American Experience. This website’s initial sampling of stories, audio clips, and documents — selected from among more than 150 interviewees — will continue to grow as the work of interviewing, digitizing, indexing, and transcribing continues.
